Special Project:
Comédie et Tragédie
two seasons of concerts and recordings with a French accent

Tragic-Comic Masks, Hadrian's VillaBreak out the berets, croissants and Armagnac! Tempesta’s next two seasons will feature a bounty of French baroque orchestral music, performed live on our Philadephia Concert Series and recorded for our next two releases on the British label Chandos.

We’re calling our project Comédie et Tragédie because the music we’ll record all comes from the theater and pays tribute in equal measure to contributions to opera (tragédie-lyrique), plays (comédie-ballet), and ballet.

Thanks to a major grant from the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage throught the Philadelphia Music Project, we will bring you rarely-heard gems that celebrate the distinctive French baroque style.

Thanks to a major grant from the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage throught the Philadelphia Music Project, we will bring you rarely-heard gems by Lully, Charpentier, Marais, Rameau, Leclair and Rebel, nestled within programs that contextualize and celebrate the distinctive French baroque style.

Such a special project deserves a special venue, so we’re moving to the Kimmel Center’s Perelman Theater next season for the performances that feature this repertoire, March and June. We’re also taking March’s concert, Apollo at Play, on the road to Cornell University.

With all that Frenchness in our future, perhaps we should change our name to Tempête en Mer?
