Look Back #1: Fasch
If you’ve followed Tempesta for a while, you’re certainly familiar with the name Johann Friedrich Fasch. Richard and Gwyn travelled to Dresden to examine manuscripts held in the Saxon State Library, many of which had been damaged by flooding caused by bombing during World War II. That foray into the vaults became a years-long project, with Tempesta giving numerous works their first performances in over 200 years, and recording many of them for release on the Chandos label. On Revival and Rediscovery, Tempesta plays the US premiere of another orchestral work of wonder by “The Fantastic Herr Fasch”—the Concerto for Orchestra in D, FWV L: D2.

Look Back #4: Janitsch
Tempesta’s relationship with Janitsch is similar to that with Fasch, but it’s been more of a slow burn. This season, we’ve finally carved out time to record some favorite works by Janitsch for release by Chandos. We’ve been waiting for years for the right moment to do that, since Gwyn and Richard had hands-on time with recovered Janitsch pieces in the Berlin Sing-Akademie archive, a vast collection that was considered lost after World War II, but rediscovered in 2001.
