This summer, Tempesta di Mare’s musicians are laying tracks for two CD’s of chamber music for release on Chandos Records in the coming season.

Already in June, Gwyn Roberts has taken center mic for sonatas by Francesco Mancini, a repertoire she recently rediscovered for herself and has become pleasantly obsessed with. The disc will consist of 8 sonatas on recorder and baroque flute accompanied by Lisa Terry, cello, Adam Pearl, harpsichord, and Richard Stone, guitar, archlute and theorbo. Readers who attended Gwyn’s recitals on our series last season at Barnes or Woodmere have heard some of these pieces and will vouch for what a welcome addition they are to the baroque recorder canon. The sessions took place in Griswold Hall of the famed Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where Gwyn, Adam and Richard all teach. The Mancini CD will come out as part of Chandos’ March 2014 release.

The Mancini and Bach CDs will bring our Chandos discography to 8

Next, whenever we perform our program of Bach’s organ trio sonatas, BWV 525–530, as reimagined for chamber ensemble, audience members always ask when they can buy the CD. We finally have an answer: June 2014 on Chandos. Later this August, violinists Emlyn Ngai and Karina Schmitz join Gwyn, Lisa, Adam and Richard to record—at last—the full six sonatas of the set. The sessions will take place in Chestnut Hill at the Presbyterian Church, which will lend the recording the same warm sheen that the UK’s International Record Review called “ideal.” We are very excited about this. Be on the lookout for video footage from the sessions once they’re underway!

The Mancini and Bach CDs will bring our Chandos discography to 8, following Weiss: Lute Concerti (2004), Handel: Flaming Rose (2007), Scarlatti: Cantatas and Chamber Music (2010), and Fasch: Orchestral Music, vol.1 (2008), vol.2 (2011) and vol.3 (2012). All current releases can be obtained from us directly or at amazon.com, the itunes store, and elsewhere.

Still more exciting record projects are headed down the pike this season, so stay tuned to find out more about our new orchestral series on Chandos, French music for the theater by Lully, Charpentier, Marais, Rebel, Leclair and Rameau.
